Academic Solutions
FEATURED ARTICLES

A good education, the key to a successful future, is important, but sometimes these essentials can lead to incredible frustration, conflict, and a daily struggle that divides parent and child. Is there help out there? Is there a place where children can be encouraged and learn the skills they need to be successful? These very things are at the heart of the mission of Academic Solutions, a local, family-owned tutoring center.

What makes Academic Solutions different from other tutoring services? Plenty! Come inside and see why Bob and Jennifer Hoyer have made this business their life's passion, not just their job. Unlike programs offered at national tutoring franchises, Academic Solutions tailors a personalized program to your child instead of assigning your child to a nationally-designed program!

For more than 14 years, Bob and Jennifer have tutored both private and public school students in the metro area and established Academic Solutions in 1998 with Bob's brother Don. Their established connections with local educators, counselors, and psychologists keep them aware of evolving requirements for Cobb and Fulton schools on the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Their tutoring curricula ensure that your child is prepared to meet and exceed required academic standards.

Individualized tutoring for students of all ages

An important part of the Academic Solutions philosophy focuses on each child's individual needs. A complete set of academic testing is performed to determine a student's strengths and weaknesses before he or she is enrolled in any Academic Solutions program. Based on testing results, an individualized program is designed to target any areas of concern. As students master basic skills, these skills are applied to actual classroom coursework resulting in increased student performance. Bob and Jennifer have found that individualized attention, low student-to-teacher ratios, and challenging curricula are critical for students to succeed.

One-on-one tutoring is available

Bob and Jennifer have seen that elementary students, particularly those in the early grades, must have one-on-one tutoring to build the very basic skills needed for early success. For the young ones, building a relationship with one teacher who is totally focused on what that student needs, can make all the difference in the world. For older students who are ready to build independence, a three-to-one ratio is also available.

SAT prep in a 3:1 ratio

The staff at Academic Solutions realizes how competitive educational opportunities can be and works with college-bound students (from as early as possible in their academic career) to develop the reading, math, and writing skills they need, not just for the SAT, but for college as well! By developing college-level reading and math skills, students find that they can acquire a much higher score than typically provided in a six-week course. SAT preparation is not just about taking the test; it also serves as a planning tool. The staff works with the students not only to help them raise their scores, but also to determine what type of college would be the best match for their goals. It's individualized, strategic, and it works!

College Planning and Essay Writing

Bob and Jennifer feel that the students enrolled in their SAT program also deserve specific guidance in choosing colleges and additional assistance in the application process. At Academic Solutions, college planning and help with essay writing are free for students in SAT prep.

Study Skills for all ages

Developing good study skills, note-taking techniques, and hands-on interaction with subject matter serve to enable students to really grasp what they are studying. Their 14 years spent tutoring students in this area have allowed Bob and Jennifer to tailor study skills to suit your child's individual course load. Strong study skills are essential to your child's academic future.

Unique approach to home school

Academic Solutions also offers a unique and effective approach to families who choose to home school their children. Their primary focus is middle school as this is the time when key skills are developed for success in high school, and beyond. Their home school program focuses on teaching students how to study, prepare for tests, outline, and organize their materials.

While content is important, Academic Solutions realizes that content is easily forgotten, whereas skills that have been practiced and acquired are not so easily lost. The goal in their courses is more than simply to have students memorize facts, spit them out on a test, and never truly learn the information. Developing good study skills, note taking techniques, and hands-on interaction with a subject matter serve to enable students to really grasp what they are studying. If you're a home school parent, this program may be the key to enhancing your child's academic future.

As you can see, Academic Solutions offers more than the typical tutoring center; they want to see your child learn and succeed.
